(1) Search for muon lepton flavor violation:

We are studying a search for muon lepton flavor violation with un-precedent precision with high intensity muon sources. The physics motivation on the search is based on the fact that supersymmetric grand unification models predict large branching ratios of muon lepton flavor violation. In particular, the process of muon-electronconversion in a muonic atom is looked for.

(2) Research and Development of High Intense Muon Sources:

We are working to develop a high intense muon source whose muon beamintensity is 4 orders of magnitude higher than the presently available. It is called the PRISM project (="Phase Rotated Intense Slow Muon source"). It will be built at the new project of high intense proton machine at Tokai.

(3) Studies of Neutrino Oscillation at Super Kamiokande

We are studying neutrino oscillation at Super Kamiokande which is located deep underground at Kamioka, Gifu-prefecture. Super Kamiokandeis a water cherenkov detector to observe neutrinos (a neutralweakly-interacting particle). The neutrino oscillation is a phenomenathat one type (flavor) of neutrino changes into a different type ofneutrino. In particular, neutrinos from the sun, and the neutrinosfrom the earth's atmosphere are studied to observe neutrinooscillation.

(4) Neutrino Factory

We are studying a future possibility to construct a neutrino factory, where a high intense neutrino beam is available from the decay of muons in the storage ring. Important physics topics is to determine the mixing matrix of neutrinos, and to discover CP violation in neutrino oscillation.

(5) Search for Double Beta Decays with Tracking

We are studying a search for double beta decays with beta-ray tracking. By using a lens system and Image recorders, two beta-rays from double beta decay events can be recorded with high background suppression. This study can be done at Toyonaka Campus of Osaka University.
